nvg2 460 driver MacGregor MACTEC NVG2

No face welds - the entire face is the sweet spot. Every shot feels like dead center.

It may only be a few millimeters on the face, but hitting the ball off-center instead of direct-center usually means chipping instead of putting. Cup Face 360 technology makes the entire beta-titanium face a sweet spot. The 3-D plasma welding is completely off the face, enabling maximum rebound properties over a larger hitting area. It s a sweet spot that is 30 larger than normal insert technology. So every shot feels like you hit it dead center. And the edge of the face can put you a long way down the middle.

High rebound. Hot ball response.

Alpha, alpha-beta and beta: Like the three grades of gasoline, there are three grades of titanium. Beta-titanium is high-octane supreme. MacGregor uses TVC beta-titanium in the NVG2 s cup face, because its high elongation properties are ideal to generate hot ball response from all points of impact. As long as you make contact, you re going long. Yes, beta-titanium is expensive. Better materials always are.

Higher MOI. Less twisting. Greater accuracy.

Distance technology isn t much help if it only puts you further OB, which is why the MACTEC NVG2 Driver is equipped with high-density tungsten. Four precision-placed weights keep unwanted rotation of the clubhead to a minimum. The 1.5 gram weights in the extreme heel and toe act as stabilizing forces to increase MOI, while 10 and 7 gram tungsten weights are precisely positioned in the sole to create a draw bias. Quadra tungsten weighting complements the power of the NVG2 with an abundance of control - something you ll appreciate if you want to play your second shot from the fairway, not the tee box.

Lower CG. Low spin. High launch.

The one-piece body structure of the NVG2 Driver was engineered with an incredibly thin crown . 6mm. This is 40 less mass than a standard titanium crown 1mm, and allows MacGregor to redistribute weight from the crown to the sole via tungsten weights. The precisely positioned weights lower the CG by 8 to produce low spin and an easy, high launch angle.

Stunning design. Tee box envy.

The MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 Driver delivers performance, but it s also every inch as beautiful as the drives it sends into the distance. Sparing no expense, the rich, translucent paint is applied in multiple coats, complementing the mirrored finished with a depth luster one finds in the finest luxury automobiles. It represents not just a better understanding of science, engineering and golf - it s a higher order of design.

Added clubhead speed. Extraordinary distance.

The proprietary technology inside the Fujikura Quadra Action shaft will increase your swing speed. Of course, more swing speed means more distance. Ingeniously engineered with three bend points and four stiffness zones, the Quadra Action shaft generates, loads, stabilizes and releases increased energy at impact. Golfers get more clubhead speed without swinging harder. It s an extra level of technology for some extra distance on the fairway.

so i used my new mactec nvg2 for the first time today. i am not quite sure why it doesnt fit me but im thinking its in the shaft. my dispersion is probably about average compared to my other drivers. however, the distance is 10 yards shorter, every time. also, the 9.5 club is supposedly square. doesn t look it at all to me compared to my wilson dd5 and orlimar hipti 420. the wilson definitely looks closed and the orlimar looks square. but the nvg2 9.5 looks about 2-3 closed. also, i was very unimpressed with the feel of the driver. im wondering if reshafting can do anything for distance for me. i believe the face is very forgiving, but i think im hitting too much spin with the current shaft. if reshafting would add back the yards ive lost, id definitely be willing to give it another try. id be willing to compromise the lack of feel for some more consistent results. i only got to play 9 with it today, which is why i will not rate the club yet. im going to try and give it 3-4 rds. and then post my comments again. after first impressions id give it 3 stars though.

another update:  I was swinging better today.  To give you an idea, I m about a 9 or 10 handicap.  The forgiveness of this head was really noticeable.  Most forgiving clubface Ive ever come across.  It does not have great feel.  You can tell when you hit it square and don t, but the center hits do not feel extremely solid.  I had much better control today.  My misses were still the same with the club low hooks, high slices, pulls.   The club sits very well at address.  The 9.5 head does look as if it closed at least a degree or two which I do not like.  My rating goes up to a 4 for the club if I were to be rating it today.  It still seemed as if it produces more spin than my NVG 9.5 and isn t quite as long even on center hits.  It is about 10 yards shorter than my usual driver.  However, I still think this might be a function of the shaft.  I will keep updating as I find things I like and don t like.

I play the NVG2 Tour 10 with the stock Speeder in stiff. Absolutely unbelievable club. It has transformed my game over the last month since I got it. My index has gone from 11 to 7 in a month, and I attribute most of that to the fact that I am hitting fairways at a dramatically higher rate. It is the straighest driver I have ever hit. I have absolute confidence now that I am going to be in the fairway. It sets up beautifully, and gives you total confidence. The only thing I don t like is the sound. It has an odd hollow doink kind of sound--imagine what a corked aluminum bat might sound like and you re imagining the sound of the NVG2 Tour. But the performance is so outstanding that the sound is the smallest of sacrifices. Best driver I ve ever hit.

I bought the driver for being a sucker for the ad and a friend s suggestion.

I totally agree that it seems very forgiving, but that doink sound is ugly and there is less feel when I do hit the sweet spot. Frankly, it is not worth the price I paid for.

The sound coming out of this still beats any of the current Nike offerings

A great driver.  Really loooong.  Incredibly forgiving on all but the most terrible mis-hits.  It s looong.  Impossible to slice or hook unless you purposely set up with the clubface way open or closed.

I ve just started using it regularly, and my driving accuracy and distance has greatly increased.  Two weeks ago I had my first-ever 300-yard drive ok, the hole played way downhill, but still..

A great club, the 3h is great too.  I don t see them coming out of my bag anytime soon.

I just picked up a demo of the NVG2 Tour 10 degree in the Speeder Quad Regular Flex -- my SS is 98 but I put a lighter load on the shaft.

Immensely better than the non-tour version. The sound is better than the FT-3, feel is better than the FT-3 or FT-5 but if you had to make a comparison, it is similar to the FT-5 but the Mac feels hotter.

I have had the NVG2 Tour 10.5 driver for 3 months. Prior to this I had the original NVG. With the original NVG, with the NVG i found that i hit a very bad slice, but that probably mainly due to my swing.  I have however got some golf lessons, I figure if I am going to spend a fortune on my golf equipment I might as well spend some on me

This driver is incredibly lonnnnnnnnnnnng  I drove 320 Metres to a green, admittedly it was blowing a gail wind behind me and the hole was down hill.  But it does not really seem go give up all that much hitting into the wind either.  I regularly hit 280 Metres on an up hill par 4 with no wind assistance on my local course.

If have also found it really easy to put a baby draw on the ball with this driver.  Also the driver is really long    I have also found that this driver really rewards you if you have a nice smooth swing, once you hit the sweet spot of this driver it just launches and wants to keep going. When it comes down it seems to get a good roll on it, I think this is probably due to the speeder 757 shaft that doesnt launch the ball to high.  In my opinion the shaft on the NVG2 Tour is a massive improvement over the stock NVG shaft.

You can pick these up very cheap on ebay and for the money you just cant go wrong.

I tried many drivers, including  the TM R7 and Burner TP before getting the NVG2. I bought  the 9.5 with the Quad Stiff shaft.  I love the driver, but wasn t too happy with the shaft. But that s ok, because I almost always get an aftermarket shaft. The Quad was decent, but it just went all over the place for me. I highly doubt it is one of Fujikura s higher end shafts. I know it s not the Speeder like some believe; I asked MacGregor and they said it isn t.  No big deal for me. Now, the head is a different story. I love the feel, sound and forgiveness of it.  And I can honestly say they Cup Face works. I have hit all over the face..some on purpose and some not, and it still gets out there. I can t say that for all other drivers. One thing too, is that another reviewer mentioned that the face seemed closed. Well, mine is not. It IS 100 square. That is the first thing I loook for in a driver and I would not have bought it if it was even slightly closed, like many drivers. So, all in all, with my new shaft, Saber Tour Vector this drivers rocks. Do yourself a favor and check it out when shopping for a new one. It might just surprise you, like it did me.

I have been playing MacGregor s Mactec products for about a year now. I have hit many shots with this driver that had no business going as far or as straight as they did. The Cupface technology really works to increase distance and accuracy. The stock Fujikura shaft is good, especially for those with a smooth tempo.

I don t think I have ever read one bad review about this driver, yet, no tour players use it. Or the NVG2 Tour model.  People rant and rave about the TP R7. I hit that thing many times with different shafts and never was real impressed. But, everyone on tour appears to love it.. If Macgregor could just get Aaron or Jose to stick this in their bag, and win, I think it would sell like crazy. I believe it was designed in Japan and is a big hit there. IMO it has to be one of the best cup face ideas in drivers in a long time.  Macgregor must have chimps doing their marketing.

I thought Badds had an NVG2 Tour in his bag.

When I broke the face on my Launcher 400, I reluctantly entered the market for a driver.

I am a 4 hdcp with pretty good clubhead speed.

I tried about every major brand name 460 /- driver out there-Ping, TM, Nike, Titleist, Cleveland, etc.  Wasn t even thinking Macgregor, but my pro plays it and encouraged me to give it a shot.

What a great club.  I found it more forgiving and somehow more workable Mactec NVG2 Tour, 9, both stiff and x flex than anything else.  Close 2nd would have been the D2, then maybe a Burner not workable, but almost always a manageable draw, but neither went as far on solid and not so solid contact.  I also hit more balloon jobs huge backspin with those drivers, albeit with stock stiff shafts.  The sound on all of these clubs is ridiculous-it would have been an adjustment coming from the old 400 no matter what I got, but the Tour Mactec seems at least somewhat respectable.  D2, Burner and Superquad were decent sounding as well.

I went with x flex.  I carry it about 290, hit it lower and more boring than the stiff flex, and get more roll out, something that I almost never used to get with the 9 Launcher.  Carry distance is similar to the Launcher, but more forgiving and MUCH more roll.  Interesting that I rarely if ever ballooned the stock Fuji stiff shaft but did most of the other mfrs, at least 1 or 2 in 10 times hit.

Price is right, and I also got a hybrid as part of their new promotion.  Haven t tried it, never had a hybrid before, we ll see what that s like.

Try the club-it is a lot of fun.

I have the nvg2 draw 10.5 I agree with everyone this is looooooonggggggggggg.

Its at least 15m longer than my tourstage x drive the feel off the face of the nvg2 is hot.

I bought my NVG2 Driver and got a free 3 Wood from Golfsmith after trying a demo in a local store.   This club has an amazing feel, distance and forgiveness.

This is the straightest set of clubs I have ever hit.  It could be that I got a higher loft.  LOL.

Unleash the real power of the NVG2 with shafts that fit your swing.

I just changed the shafts for the driver and 3 wood and I am in full blown red hot love with them again.

I have both the NVG2 Draw in 10.5 and NVG2 Tour in a 10.  I like the tour model because it has an open face, but the shaft was launching a tad low for my taste.  So I took the speeder shaft and put it in the draw model along with 10 grams of tape in the toe and took the pro launch blue 65S from the draw and put it in the tour head.  Wowwhat a change.  The speeder is tip stiff and keeps me from hooking the draw head if I really go at it, and I still get tremendous carry.  The pro launch blue in the tour head is perfect for me, I can jump out of my socks if I want and hit it straight or with a very slight fadehowever I do get less carry and more roll than the draw version.  I played the Copperhead course at Innisbrook yesterday with both drivers in the bag.  Two of the par fives were open enough for me to really wind up on the tour model and I hit huge drives on both holes.  The rest of the day I hit the draw model and it was just about perfect.

I have a 10.5 NVG2 non-draw, non-tour.  It was a solid driver with the Quadra Action shaft.  However, I recently had a Grafalloy Blue S installed and this head came alive.  Tighter dispersion and an incredibly boring trajectory.  Easily outclasses my Titty 905s, TM R7, and Cleveland HiBore XLS.  The ball just seems to jump off the face.

I bought a used 10.5-degree NVG2 Draw with the Fuji Quadra Action stiff shaft. I hit beautiful shots, straight or with a slight fade, but only 265 or so. I was hitting my 9.5 Hi-Bore XL 270-280 when I didn t slice it out of bounds.

Is it the extra degree of loft that s hurting distance or would a different shaft get me back the 10-15 yards I ve lost.

Just got the Tour version and have been hitting it on the range and just played 9 with it. Shaft is a Grafalloy Prolaunch Red Xflex 65g i think. I m coming from a Hibore XL with the fiton red X flex. Now I will say that just the sound alone is miles better than the aluminum bat sound of the Hibore. The club/shaft is just pure butter in my hands, and I m getting a much better trajectory and it feels much less boardy probably because of the shaft so I m sold. Love this thing and for what they are going for these days you d be kidding yourself to not try one out.

I just bought the NVG2 460cc driver off ebay and had a bash with it today on the range, it has a higher flight than over drivers i have used but still good distance and i am glad i bought this with a stiff shaft because it doesnt seem overly stiff compared to other graphite shafts, defo recommend this for the money you can buy them for.

I purchased the Mactec NvG2 Tour driver in 9 with a stiff Fuji Speeder.  The driver is fantastic; great distance, control, and sound.  At first I found myself fading unintentionally, and later found that perhaps because the shaft isn t quite as stiff as other, heavily-weighted, shafts are, that it may be because it wasn t keeping up with my swing speed.  This may be true as I have soon found that with an easy tempo and smooth contact the driver is outstanding.  The ball explodes off of the face and the driver allows for much workability such as cutting the ball low under the wind with a simple tee-height change and placement in stance.  The clubhead provides confidence at address as well as the overall look of the driver, what a piece of Japanese work.  I found myself just off of the green on a long par-4 earlier today and all other shots, once my swing issues were resolved, were just as impressive with consistent shots easily reaching 280 with a smooth tempo and easy swing.  The control of this driver is unbelievable and, perhaps due to its Tour namesake, is able to work shots left and right and maintains, with great accuracy, long carry and overall distance with every tee-shot.  Macgregor really has something here and it s funny that I ve only discovered this years after its arrival on the market.  Hopefully others, too, will consider the Macgregor Mactec NvG2 Tour driver during their next purchase.

Rock solid titanium driver with a loud ting sound. Mine is 9 with fujikura stiiff. Low launch bullets. I try to close the face on this driver as the rollout can be stunningly long. Isn t te best feeling driver I ve hit, in fact, it is a little stiff feeling and while it has a largish sweet spot it never feels sweet or pured. Nice slight color tint to the black paint almost a purple sheen. Cover gas a zipper which sucks.  It isn t the easiest driver to jot and like I said it doesn t feel particularly fine but hit it right and it goes a bloody mile.

I love this driver. I paid 50 for it new, fits me better than any driver I have ever owned still to this day.

Stock stiff shaft with a 9.5loft.

Titleist 910fd proforce V2 66 gram x

I m pretty sure that this club is in the no go list according the R A.

Due to it s MOI. Trampolining effect

Had this driver for a while until I heard it s an illegal club for competition.

So had to go and buy a Taylor Made Burner

Which is unfortunate because I still rate this driver the best I ever had.

It went straight and long. Leaves the burner for dead.

Maybe that s why they banned it

Do your research to confirm the above.

By the way I still have it. For practice only.

Should have kept using it, it s only the Japan model that is non conforming.

I have the NVG2 Draw 10.5 w/ Epic Shaft and I absolutely love it.. Got it for 79 bucks. What a steal. I ve used all sorts of drivers over the years, but this is the only one I feel total confidence with off the tee. I don t know if I m going to find them, but I would love to get my hands on the fairway woods.

Wow, long live this thread. A friend of mine had the 3 wood.

He could hit it as far as his Mizuno driver.

I tried to find the NVG2 driver back in 2009 on ebay but

couldn t find one and then forgot all about til I saw this.
